Dr. Dubravko Klabučar:

"Scientists working together to reduce the possibility of nuclear wars"

Abstract:
The presentation of the nuclear war danger in majority of media has been
rather incomplete and even distorted for many years, and not only in the
recent period when the threats from North Korea dominate the public
discourse. This helps perpetuate the illusion that the end of the Cold
war had seemingly resolved the threat of the huge, universal nuclear
holocaust through the nuclear war between the superpowers, which is
still the biggest threat, contrary to impressions from the skewed media
coverage. An important recent example is the anti-nuclear treaty proclaimed
less than two months ago on the level of the Organization of United
Nations by a large majority of its member countries. This has been
largely  ignored by most of the mass media, as was an organized effort
of thousands of scientists to support this treaty. The organized effort,
especially that of connected scientists, should continue in the direction
of stigmatization of the nuclear weapons, similarly to the stigmatization
of the chemical and biological weapons. There are non-negligible chances
of some significant successes, such as removing the nuclear missiles
from the regime of a hair-trigger response to a perceived nuclear threat.
