Dear colleagues,

I would like to invite to the following seminar,

Andrew DeBenedictis
(SFU and The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, Canada)

"Introduction to torsion only gravity"

Tuesday, 28th of April, 11:00h, F-201

It is well known that gravitation can be well described as a
curvature of spacetime. Theories where curvature is supplemented with
torsion are also well known. It turns out that gravitational phenomena
can also be described by torsion only, without any curvature. In an
appropriate limit such a theory is in agreement with General Relativity.
This talk will present an introduction to the description of gravity via
torsion without curvature, and its extensions to actions non-linear in
torsion. Various scenarios such as stellar structure, black holes, and
cosmology will be briefly discussed, as well as some potential
shortcomings of the theory.

Best regards,

Ivica Smolić
