[seminar] EuroGenesis kick-off workshop at Dubrovnik (fwd)

U okviru programa EUROCORES kojeg vodi European Science Foundation
(http://www.esf.org/activities/eurocores.html) u proljeće ove godine
započeo je projekt EuroGENESIS - Origin of the Elements and Nuclear
History of the Universe
(http://www.esf.org/activities/eurocores/running-programmes/eurogenesis.html).
Nakon opsežne evaluacije prijedloga projekata tijekom 2009. godine
odobreno je financiranje 4 kolaborativna projekta na kojima sudjeluje
ukupno 16 individualnih projekata iz Europskih država kojima je odobreno
dodatno financiranje, te 16 pridruženih projekata iz zemalja Europe, SAD
i Kanade. Jedan od individualnih projekata financiran od strane NZZ-a je
s Zavoda za eksperimentalnu fiziku IRB-a (Experimental nuclear physics
inputs for thermonuclear runaways, voditelj projekta Neven Soić).
Startna konferencija EuroGENESIS projekta, organizirana od strane
Znanstvenog odbora projekta, održati će se u Dubrovniku od 24.-26.
studenog 2010. u Grand Hotel Park. Konferencija je zamišljena da ne bude
samo susret znanstvenika koji sudjeluju u EuroGENESIS projektu već se
želi okupiti što više znanstvenika koji se bave istom tematikom a nisu
uključeni u projekt iz razno-raznih razloga. Ideja je da se na tom susretu
s znanstvenicima koji nisu uključeni u projekt dogovorimo o suradnji, bilo
da postanu službeni pridruženi partner, bilo potpuno neslužbeno, no cilj
je da se istraživanja rade koordinirano i zajednički. Na konferenciji će
sudjelovati i nekoliko pozvanih predavača koji su vodeći svjetski
znanstvenici u tom području.

Održavanje ovakvog skupa u Hrvatskoj je prilika i hrvatskim znanstvenicima
koji se bave, ili se žele baviti, ovom atraktivnom tematikom i srodnim
područjima fizike da susretnu i upoznaju vodeće svjetske znanstvenike i
moguće pokrenu nove suradnje i istraživanja. Stoga pozivam sve
zainteresirane znanstvenike da nam se pridruže na ovom skupu.
Susret se održava u Grand Hotel Park (4 zvjezdice). S hotelom je
dogovorena vrlo povoljna cijena smještaja: puni pansion u jednokrevetnoj
sobi je 80€, puni pansion za osobu u dvokrevetnoj sobi 60€. Ostali sitni
troškovi, koji uključuju prijevoz aerodrom - hotel, svečanu večeru
dobrodošlice, pauze s kavom itd, koštaju oko 20€ po danu. Susret počinje
svečanom večerom 23. 11. i završava na večer 26. 11., što znači da je
ukupan trošak za jednokrevetnu sobu oko 400€.

FIRST EuroGENESIS WORKSHOP
"ORIGIN OF THE ELEMENTS AND NUCLEAR HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE"

Dear colleagues,
The First EuroGENESIS Workshop on "Origin of the Elements and Nuclear
History of the Universe" will take place on November 24-26 in Dubrovnik,
Croatia. It will bring together specialists in astronomy, astrophysics,
nuclear physics, astro- and cosmochemistry. The workshop aims at integrating
various existing initiatives to obtain a complete understanding of how matter
evolved from the Big Bang to the present abundance pattern. Such integration
will be achieved by combining the expertise of theoreticians who model stars,
with that of observers who determine chemical abundances using space-borne
and ground-based facilities, of laboratory measurements of meteoritic grains,
of chemists who study the formation of molecules and dust in stars and their
reprocessing in space, as well as of nuclear physicists, who provide
information on nuclear processes.
Thematically the workshop reflects the objectives of the European-scale
research programme EuroGENESIS
(http://www.esf.org/activities/eurocores/running-programmes/eurogenesis.html),
which has been launched this year by the European Science Foundation.
Scientists from outside the EuroGENESIS programme are specially welcome to
participate, since one of the workshop objectives is to identify topics of
common interest with both individual scientists as well as with other
European and national programmes. Better interfacing with those other
programmes and individual scientists, e.g., via future joint networking
events, is among the desired outcomes.
FORMAT OF THE WORKSHOP

This is a 3 day workshop. First two days will be organised in sessions
covering the following topics:
- Astrochemistry and cosmochemistry: dust and molecules in circumstellar
environments, presolar grains in meteorites
- Explosive nucleosynthesis: supernovae, novae, X-ray bursts, and stellar
mergers
- The nucleosynthetic fingerprints of the first stars
- Chemical evolution and the role of massive stars
- Nuclear physics of the stars: theoretical and experimental efforts
Day 3 will be dedicated to individual meetings of the collaborative projects
within the EuroGENESIS programme. Scientists from outside the EuroGENESIS
programme are welcome to participate in those meetings for planning possible
joint future events and collaborations. The scientific program will include
invited review talks as well as oral contributions (selected from the pool of
abstracts submitted by interested participants). More details on the program

The Workshop will take place at the Grand Hotel Park, a charming 4-star hotel
located at the heart of Dubrovnik (Croatia), offering a breathtaking view of
the sea and the Lapad Cove promenade:

The recommended form of travel is by air to Dubrovnik airport. Early booking
is recommended to save flight costs. Since the workshop starts in the morning
of November 24, arrival the day before the conference is strongly recommended.
A welcome reception will be arranged in the evening of November 23.

The workshop has a low registration fee of 100 Eur/day, which includes a full
