Advanced Approach to Photemission Experiments on the Beamline APE @ Elettra

A number of the recent results obtained on the APE beamline (@ Elettra) demonstrates how the improved control of experimental parameters, combined with photon energy and polarization control and the full understanding of the experimental geometry, allow to address the analysis of photoemission intensities in terms of the matrix element effects and the tomographic reconstructions of constant initial state surfaces. The evidence of reduced symmetry of magnetically ordered Ni(111) is obtained from the analysis of the photoemission angular intensities as a function of the magnetization vector direction and the incident light polarization [1]. The differences in the Be(0001) Fermi surface with respect to its bulk counterpart are discussed in terms of surface-related changes of the Fermi surface 'filling' [2]. The arrangement of the pentacene molecules and the formation of the charge-transfer interface states on the vicinal Cu(100) are understood through a combined scanning tunnelling and photoemission experiment.
