Abstract
One of the pressing issues of the day is how changes in diversity affect
the stability of the planet. We use a simple model which has a feedback
dynamics between species that takes us to a fixed point in their
relative populations. We then use 'natural' selection to delete the
least fit species and replace it by a new species that connects
randomly with the rest. We find that this builds a self organised
network. This simple models allows us the calculate several time
scales - of the growth of the network, the average lifetime of a
species and the lifetime of the network. We find that the lifetime of
the network goes up exponentially with diversity. This result is robust
to several generalizations of the model. The network of directed graphs
can also be used in other contexts
