Sazetak:

The description of the $\eta$ and $\eta^\prime$ mesons in the
Dyson-Schwinger approach has often relied on the Witten-Veneziano
relation.  Here we explore the consequences of using instead
its recent generalization by Shore.
We find that irrespective of concrete dynamical model used, our
Dyson-Schwinger approach, which relies on the lowest order in the
$1/N_c$ expansion, is phenomenologically more successful in
conjunction with the standard Witten-Veneziano relation than
with the generalization valid in all orders in the $1/N_c$ expansion.
