Charge and entropy flow in dense polaronic liquid near crystallization

dr. sc. Eduard Tutiš

Institut za fiziku, Zagreb

Dense system of strongly interacting polarons represents the unique playground regarding charge and heat transport, featuring large configuration and spin entropy states in the liquid phase, and “crystal defect” propagation in charge/spin ordered state. The liquid phase turns to be Currie-Weiss metal or Currie-Weiss semiconductor, depending on precise values of coupling constants. The electronic crystal phase is another “semiconducting” phase, where the characteristic energy scales associated to defect formation and propagation, and related entropy flow show in electric conductivity and thermoelectric power. We propose the framework for understanding and calculating these quantities and illustrate its application on the rare physical example of organic crystal where contribution of spin and configuration entropy cancel in the liquid high temperature phase, while the low temperature electronic crystal phase is the one of doubly evaded frustration.

(The lecture follows the presentation recently delivered at the conference >From Solid State to Byophysics VII, Cavtat, June 7-14, 2014)
