The behaviour of a Fermi liquid at low temperatures can be described exactly in terms of a number of renormalized parameters. These parameters are difficult to calculate in strongly correlated systems, where the interactions are so strong that direct perturbation theory cannot be applied. The renormalized parameters, however, can be calculated from non-perturbative numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations for certain impurity systems, and lattice models in infinite dimension, In the strong correlation regime, and in the approach to a quantum critical point, relations between the renormalized parameters can be predicted from the conditions that certain types of fluctuations are suppressed. We show that these relations are confirmed by direct NRG calculations.

We also present a new way to calculate renormalized parameters using a renormalized form of perturbation theory. We illustrate the approach for the Anderson impurity model, and show that it gives good results in the strong correlation regime. The method has potential for application to more general class of strongly correlated electron systems, such as the Hubbard and periodic Anderson models in three dimensions.
