The magic of laser ablation and the production, transport and measurement of very small particles

Fundamental experiments have been performed for better understanding of laser ablation of solid state material. In detail, the following processes have been studied: (i) preferential ablation of elements, (ii) production and transport of laser-produced nanoparticles, and (iii) characterization of airborne, ultrafine particles by optical emission and mass spectroscopy applying an inductively coupled plasma.
