Research Fellowship in Biophysics
University of Cambridge
United Kingdom
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the
first instance.
Applications are invited for a five-year Research Fellowship, generously
funded by the Frances and Augustus Newman Foundation, to work with
Professor Tuomas Knowles on the biophysics of anti-microbial peptides.
Antibiotic resistance is a very significant challenge to our society and
healthcare systems, and new modalities of action are required to address
this problem. The project will focus on the discovery of new peptide
antibiotics through the use of high-throughput droplet microfluidics.
The mechanism of action and activity of the peptides will be
characterised at a biophysical level.
Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or
other relevant discipline. Experience with peptide chemistry and/or
microfluidics and instrument development would be advantageous.
Applicants will be expected to work in an interdisciplinary environment
and interact with a team of scientists with a wide range of expertise in
biophysics and biophysical chemistry.
