XX International School of Pure and Applied Biophysics on
"Molecolar and biophysical aspects of photosynthesis"
Venice, - Campo Santo Stefano, January 25th-29th, 2016
http://www.pa.ibf.cnr.it/sibpa/index.php/scuola-internazionale-di-biofisica-sibpa-ivsla/school/65-xx-edition-2016
Organised and supported by:
SIBPA - Italian Society for Pure and Applied Biophysics (Società Italiana di Biofisica Pura e Applicata)
IVSLA - Venetian Institute of Sciences, Arts and Humanities (Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti)
Director of the School:
Giorgio M. Giacometti (IVSLA and University of Padua) - E-mail: gcometti[at]bio.unipd.it
Scientific Coordinators of the 2016 Edition:
Tomas Morosinotto (Department of Biology, University of Padua) [E-mail: tomas.morosinotto[at]unipd.it]
Ildikò Szabò (Department of Physics, University of Rome Tor Vergata)
Giorgio M. Giacometti (IVSLA and University of Padua)
The School focuses on contemporary biophysical topics. The selected subjects will draw young researchers' attention to frontier research issues of considerable scientific and educational impact. The School will be held in the magnificent Palazzo Franchetti, the premises of the "Istituto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti" located in the historical centre of Venice, close to Canal Grande and Accademia (Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti).
Photosynthesis converts solar energy into chemical energy and support most living organisms on Earth. Also biomass produced by photosynthetic organisms was converted into fossil fuels, that now supply energy to power most human activities. The school will cover the most recent knowledge on the features of the photosynthetic machinery apparatus and its regulation. it will cover in particular structure of photosystems, regulation of electron and proton transport, light harvesting and photo-protection, carbon fixation and photorespiration.
